Steve Believes: NCAA Men’s Elite 8, Day 1

Yesterday on Steve Believes, I made predictions for the second half of the Sweet 16  matchups. And as to how I did with those predictions, well I went 2-2, with incorrect predictions being for North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

And now that they’re settled, it’s time to make my predictions for Day 1 of the Elite 8 Round for the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The matchups are listed via the bullet points below and are each accompanied by a brief yet detailed description:

  • #3 Texas Tech Red Raiders Vs. #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs-Texas Tech got to this point last year, only to lose against the eventual champion Villanova Wildcats. This year, they play a Gonzaga team that is looking to make its second Final Four in three years. I tend to give teams in their second consecutive go-around the benefit of the doubt. However, Gonzaga is just too strong this season to lose at this point of the tournament.
  • #3 Purdue Boilermakers Vs. #1 Virginia Cavaliers-The team that Texas Tech defeated last year to get to this point takes on the team, which has the unique distinction of being the only one-seed to lose in the first round. Of course, Virginia is a one-seed for the second year in a row. Plus, they are in the Elite 8 for the second time in four years. However, it’s going to be a much different outcome for Virginia this time around.

Well, that’s it for today’s edition of Steve Believes: The 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Tune in tomorrow, as I will make my predictions for Day 2 of the Elite 8 matchups. So until then, so long everybody!
