Flickasbord, Volume 97

I thought that I was done giving tune-ups to the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page. But after getting positive feedback about a movie that I eventually changed my mind about, I began to see that movie in its original light. So, with that being said, let’s begin.

First up, let’s start with that movie that I now see in its original light, with that movie being “Triple 9”, as my only slight nitpick about it was seeing the late Michael K. Williams playing a drag queen. But after realizing that he appeared in “The Public”, “Critical Thinking”, “Body Brokers” and “Breaking”, following the former of those five movies, I decided to pardon it for a re-assessment. Besides, it could be a good complimentary movie to any of the expected top four Nadine Velazquez Flickuum movies in “Flight”, “Snitch”, “Husband For Hire” and/or “The Bounce Back”.

One thing that’s so rare to me is a celebrity appearing in two movies that have such a similar vibe to one another, let alone appearing in two such movies in the same calendar year. But here we are, as Cicely Strong managed such a feat in 2015 via the enshrined Flickuum movie “The Bronze” and the very pesky “Staten Island Summer”. Yes, the latter of those two movies still hasn’t returned to the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page. But given that it could outrank the former of the two movies, I have decided to give it a third re-assessment.

And finally, Tom Hanks always seems to provide a late-year movie of Flickuum quality, whether it’s “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood” or my eventual favorite of his in “A Man Called Otto”. And now it looks like he’ll provide another such movie in “Here”, which re-teams him with Robin Wright 30 years after the release of Forrest Gump. Initially, I had a take it or leave it attitude about his newest Sony Pictures release, only to see that it has vibes similar to a Tier 3 movie “Big Fish”, which is also a movie that had its re-assessment during the same week that “The Bounce Back” was re-assessed. Plus, it looks like that Tom Hanks will provide yet another potential March Madness style opponent for the Shemar Moore-Nadine Velazquez collaboration.

Well, after crunching the numbers of my running count for all Flickuum related categories, my plus/minus ratio is a +37, due to A) Hitting on three successful assessments/re-assessments in “It Ends With Us”, “Good Boys” and “New Jersey Drive”, and B) The jury still being out on “Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths – Part One”. And while Point B is frustrating at this particular juncture, I can get my answer about what direction that I want to go in with the latter of the four movies after assessing parts two and three of “Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths”.

Until the next time.
