Flickasbord, Volume 95

Well, prior to the decision of expanding to 2,600 movies for The Flickuum Project, I was at +35 for the amount of movies expected to get overall guaranteed Project spots. But that plus/minus number has gone down by two, as A) “She Is Love” didn’t pass its expedited second re-assessment and B) “Not Forgotten” ended up being Paz Vega’s third post-Spanglish failure. Yes, I did luck out slightly in reducing that plus/minus number, but I won’t be as lucky with the amount of movies that are currently up for assessment/re-assessment, thus I’m sticking to my latest (and last) expansion plan.

During my assessment of “Not Forgotten”, it dawned on me that both “Texas Killing Fields” and “Take Shelter” could possibly outrank a fully guaranteed Flickuum movie in “Lawless”, as all three movies are Jessica Chastain movies. So, given that possibility, I have pardoned those two movies to Tier 8. Now let’s see if those pardons end up being good decisions or not.

There are some movies that just simply make you feel their grittiness throughout, such as “Four Brothers” and “A Most Violent Year”, with the former being an enshrined Flickuum movie for nearly 17 years and the latter turning itself around during its second re-assessment. And of course, with those two movies being mentioned, I have decided to add “Mojave” to the assessment/re-assessment roster, as that movie features two of the cast members (Garrett Hedlund, Mark Wahlberg) from the former, along with one member (Oscar Isaac) from the latter. And given how those three actors were major catalysts in the grittiness of their respective movies, I have a feeling that this particular addition to the assessment/re-assessment roster will join those two other movies in The Flickuum rankings.

After seeing Fredro Starr in “Ride ‘98”, which passed its re-assessment, I decided to tie up one more loose end via pardoning “Sunset Park” from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page, as the pay-off scene involving the titular high school basketball team has a vibe that’s similar to the 318th enshrined Flickuum movie “Real Steel”. Yes, the latter of the two movies is still a long shot to make The Project, although it could be the only shot for actors like James Harris and Antwon Tanner to be a part of Flickuum lore. Stay tuned.

And finally, the number of new/fairly new/upcoming movies expected to beat the New Year’s Day 2026 deadline is expected to drop by two, as United States wide release dates for both “Juror #2” and “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse” haven’t been set, thus they could be candidates for the 100 Stand page. But a lot could happen for those two movies between now and the first day of 2026, thus it’s too early to assume that they will join “Fly Me To The Moon” and “Trap” on the aforementioned 100 Stand page.

Without counting Tier 10 movies, I’m still at a +33, which meant that I wouldn’t have had any flexibility in adding much to the assessment/re-assessment roster during the limit of 2,400 era. But thanks to the decision to expand yet again, I can take more chances at stockpiling the roster instead of phasing out an actual good Beverley Mitchell movie to meet a handicapping quota. And believe me, there is an actual good movie of hers out there. I just don’t know it yet.

Until the next time.
