With how much futility that I’ve encountered via assessing/re-assessing movies since three weeks ago this coming Saturday, it’s time that I replenish the depth of assessments/re-assessments, especially since the replenishments could become a necessity instead of a luxury. Let’s begin.
First up, there was a movie that I didn’t complete a little over 16 years ago, with that movie being “Frida”, which got Salma Hayek a Best Actress nomination. And given that I do not like leaving any movie unfinished, I have decided to re-assess it. Besides, I heard Salma Hayek is a major smoke show in that movie and I’m not missing that for the world.
Madonna has her made way into the Art Infliction Content Universe a handful (no inappropriate pun intended) of times via 1) My tattoo of her being on the Tatt-A-Lanche page, 2) The movies “Dick Tracy”, “Girl 6” and “A League Of Their Own” being on the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page, 3) The former of those three movies being among my career total of 100 movie reviews and 4) “Die Another Day” being on The Flickuum page. And now you can add the eventuality of “Evita” landing on one of those two movie ranking pages, as I have decided to finally assess that movie after it became all the rage in late-1996.
The Flickuum Project has had many actors amass double-digit amounts of worthy movies, with Keanu Reeves and Oscar Isaac being just two of them. But the one who only has Flickuum movies and is too good to not have at least 10 is Shemar Moore. Of course, “Kill Me Deadly” is on the roster of assessments/re-assessments, but he’ll be four shy of double digits, thus more movies of his will be added to the roster. And as to what those movies are, well they are “Hav Plenty”, “Justice League Vs. Teen Titans”, “The Death Of Superman”, “Reign Of The Superman”, and “Justice League Dark: Apokolips War”. Yeah, I’m confident that he’ll add to his five on 2D-animated DC Comic movies alone, especially since they have been a powerhouse since the assessment of “Superman: Man Of Tomorrow”.
Adding and subtracting movies from The Project is far from a perfect science because for every ouster of the Clint Eastwood movie “The Rookie”, there are the boneheaded ousters of “Desperado”. And of course, with that being said, there’s a possibility that I made another boneheaded decision, with it being that I revoked the tentative guaranteed Flickuum spot of “Apocalypse Now”. So, with that being said, it’s going to be one of four movies that will be pardoned from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page.
An actress who has stayed out of the headlines after constantly finding herself in them for the wrong reasons is Rachel Zegler, so maybe she is maturing after all, especially since she is only 23 years old. So, given that, I’ve softened my opinion about her. No, she’ll never have a movie of hers rank higher than Melissa Barrera’s best movie, but she is going to redeem herself in my eyes via the Netflix-released movie “Spellbound”, which has a “Tangled” vibe about it. And given that the aforementioned “Tangled” was the 792nd movie to be enshrined into The Flickuum rankings, I’m confident that her fifth-ever movie will succeed.
Earlier this week, I have seen a couple of tragic celebrity compilation videos, with one of those celebrities being Marilyn Monroe. And with that being said, I have never seen a Marilyn Monroe movie in my entire life, and I don’t look at “old Hollywood” actresses the same way that I look at Nadine Velazquez and Melissa Barrera, so I’m not sure if I ever will see one of her movies. But I’ll watch/re-watch biopics of “old Hollywood” actresses, such as the Ana de Armas-led movie “Blonde”, thus the second pardon from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page.
Ever since MLK Day 2024, Hulu has been where I’ve been accessed a lot of stuff that I’ve regularly seen on TV, in addition to still being able to find movies on there, thus causing me to notice things that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. So, with that being said, such a scenario happened shortly before my assessment of “Nope”, as I noticed a movie called “Not Forgotten” in the movies hub of my TV provider and clicked on it because it looked like an interesting movie. And interesting looking it was, as Paz Vega is one of its main characters and I find her to be a breath of fresh air, thus that movie has been added to the roster.
When it comes to my attempt of finding movies that have actresses deserving of Flickuum lore, I usually succeed in finding such movies unless the actress is Beverley Mitchell. And of course, with that being said, that struggle has permeated to Isabel Arraiza, the latter of whom I find to be absolutely radiant. But like the former of the two actresses, the Boricua beauty is in danger of not being a part of Flickuum lore, due to “Driven ‘19” being a lot of convoluted rubbish and “Thicker Than Water” being let down by a scene of bizarre echoing, although the latter of those two could be considered for The Project. But whether or not the latter movie can be obtained via hard copy, I’m still going to pardon “The Little Things” from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention because in addition to her being in that 2021 movie, it’s a movie that I feel can be understood much better via a re-assessment. Plus, that aforementioned 2021 movie has the potential to work well with “The Bounce Back”.
My 2024 theatrical tour has yet another addition to it, as Demi Moore is back in a big way with the body horror movie “The Substance”, which also features Margaret Qualley playing the younger version of Moore’s character. Yes, I’m sure Demi Moore has had work done, but she looks amazing for 61 and Margaret Qualley is at her pinnacle of hotness in this movie, so there’s no question what I’ll be seeing come the timeframe of September 23, 2024 through September 26, 2024.
Alright, I think it’s cute when a movie has an actual pair of love birds, which is one of my favorite aspects of “Paycheck”, thus I’m a sucker for that kind of thing. So, with that being said, I’m going to pardon “W.E.” from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page, simply because it too has that actual love birds aspect.
Going on the A24 website made me realize that I had no idea about how many of their movies that I actually like. But of course, I now know the exact amount, with it being 20, thus they are much more of a powerhouse that I had originally thought. So, with that being said, my constant wonderment about their ever-growing catalog took me back to the time that I saw the trailer for the movie “Problemista”, which looked like an interesting movie, only for that stupid SAG-AFTRA Strike to keep me completely in the dark about its United States wide release date. But thanks to AppleTV surfing during the wee hours of this morning, I learned that Julio Torries’ second-ever movie and directorial is available via Hulu, thus I will add it to my queue once today’s site update is complete. Plus, I’ll do the same for Greg Kinnear’s directorial debut “Phil”, as it features a different Taylor that I much more prefer over Taylor Swift, with that different Taylor being Taylor Schilling.
And finally, there will be six potential building blocks for those final Flickuum spots, as they are either on track for 2026 releases or won’t make the New Year’s 2026 deadline. And as to what those movies are, well they are 1) A pair of Melissa Barrera movies in “The Collaboration” and “The One”, which could give her double digits in Flickuum movies, 2) A sequel to Illumination’s “Super Mario Bros.” movie, 3) “Toy Story 5”, 4) “Ship”, which is the sequel to “Plane”, except Mike Colter is the star in the aforementioned sequel and 5) “Zootopia 2”. Of course, there is no guarantee that any of those movies will make The Project. But given A) The talents of both Barrera and Colter, B) Franchise reputation and C) First installment success, it’s a safe bet that those six movies will lock down six of those final Flickuum spots.
Well, if you count “Hit Man”, “Vicious Circle”, “The Watchers”, “Cruella”, “Boundaries” and “Thicker Than Water” as the movies among the 68 that will round 2,301 of the 2,400 overall guaranteed Flickuum spots, then that means that 62 of those spots are still up for grabs. And given that it’s unlikely that all of the movies up for assessment/re-assessment will fail making The Project, it’s a safe bet that every movie eligible for March Madness style competition will be ready on New Year’s Day 2026.
Tune in tomorrow to the beginning of the fourth phase for the 2,101 through 2,301 selection protocol.
