Flickasbord, Volume 90

Two days ago, I almost changed the trajectory of my movie-reviewing via almost pardoning “Chasing Papi” to The Flickuum Project, only to be reminded again how downhill that that movie went after Sofia Vergara’s character chased off Nadine Velazquez’s character. However, three other pardons will be granted and all for different reasons, so let’s begin.

First up, when I was doing yesterday’s site update, I had the CinemaSins video of the movie “Nope” on in the background because I watch the videos where Jeremy picks apart movies that I don’t like. Yes, I didn’t like Jordan Peele’s third directorial effort, but The Project is missing something that gets progressively eerie and that movie fits that bill. So, with that being said, I have decided to pardon it to Tier 8 to see if that movie can prove me right.

A movie that I kept forgetting to add to Tier 10 until yesterday was “Self Reliance”, as I had/still have a whole mountain of other movies up for assessment/re-assessment, thus it got lost in the shuffle. But with all the futility involving movies not named “Mars Needs Moms”, “Twisters”, “Two Times You” and a movie coming up two paragraphs from now, I’m at a point where creating an overage for assessments/re-assessments might become a necessity instead of a luxury for the last 69 spots of the 2,101 through 2,301 selection protocol. Plus, Anna Kendrick is 32-for-41 in having movies of hers make The Project, so her presence alone could put Jake Johnson’s movie directorial debut as one of those 69.

With “Fury” moving up to Tier 5 and “When Trumpets Fade” likely being one of the next 73 enshrined Flickuum movies, the vibes of both movies being embedded in my mind made me realize that “Memorial Day” gives off a similar vibe, thus I will pardon the James Cromwell-led movie to Tier 8 to see if I will be proved right or not. Hopefully, I am proved right because James Cromwell is on pace for 15 Flickuum movies and there’s no such thing as too many of his movies in The Project.

Two paragraphs ago, I mentioned the fourth non-futile movie that was assessed/re-assessed since this most recent July 11. And as to what that movie is, well it’s the 2021 movie “Cruella”, as it has grown on me, along with A] Having an origin story that isn’t far-fetched at all and B] The titular character and her two cohorts (Horace and Jasper) having dogs that are totally deserving of Flickuum lore. So, with all of that being said, its’ going to be in a standings style format, along with “Boundaries”, where the former must defeat 66 pending movies, while the latter must defeat 67 pending movies. Stay tuned.

Certain pairs of movies just can’t be apart in The Project, as “Money Train” can’t be without “Mo’ Money” and “Sister” can’t be out with “Moving McCallister”. The same could be said for “Life As We Know It” and “You Again”, as they were both assessed and re-assessed during the same respective timeframes. Of course, the latter of the six movies does have some hurdles to clear, thus it will join “Nope” and “Memorial Day” in Tier 8.

Alright, so how did the amount of remaining open spots in the 2,101 through 2,301 selection protocol go from 70 to 69? Well, just before this entry was written, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” was obtained via hard copy, thus it putting the number of movies available for spots 2,108 through 2,301 at 125, which is one over the required minimum. It looks like one movie will have to waiting until New Year’s Day 2026 to graduate to Tier 5.

And finally, DC Comics 2-Dimensional animated movies have slowly yet surely popped up into The Project, thanks to the trio of Alexandra Daddario, Marie Avgeropoulos and Shemar Moore. And of course, with that being said, the former of those three could cause more of that popping, as she’s in two of the three “Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths” via reprising her Lois Lane voice role. And given that I enjoyed that role of hers in “Superman: Man Of Tomorrow”, as well as wanting to see all three installments for continuity purposes, that trilogy is going to join an already crowded roster of assessments.

The savagery of Flickuum competition is overloaded once again, but it will make the process of elimination over these next 17-plus months way more fun. Especially with the names Alexandra Daddario, Shemar Moore, Anna Faris, Isabel Arraiza, Idalis De Leon, Justice Smith, Eva Green, Anna Kendrick and Melissa Barrera all in movies that are involved in the hunt for the now 69 vacant spots.

Until the next time.
