Flickasbord, Volume 89

You know the line in “Biker Boyz” where Laurence Fishburne’s character tells Derek Luke’s character that he could have him thrown off the set? Well, given that I caught all kinds of “Chasing Papi” vibes each (twice) time that I watched “From Prada To Nada”, along with my admission of liking Nadine Velazquez’s scene in the second of those three movies, I have decided to re-assess it to see if it should go back into The Flickuum Project or not. And should it pass re-assessment, then it will get thrown out of my “Permanently Shed From The Ton” review set, followed by “The Wedding Planner” being retroactively accredited as my 24th movie review. Stay tuned.

New/upcoming movies will be getting the preferential treatment for the last remaining Flickuum spots, so that bodes well for movies, such as Melissa Barrera’s next two in “The One” and “The Collaboration”. Of course, those two movies don’t have release dates, but Florence Pugh’s newest one does, which is October 11. And as to what that movie is, well it’s “We Live In Time”, which looks like it could compete with both “Uncut Gems” and “The Iron Claw” as the best A24 movie in The Project, thus it will be added to the 2024 theatrical tour.

And finally, the 15 movies that were assessed/re-assessed, following the now re-enshrined “Mars Needs Moms”, have either failed or will fail at their attempts of making The Project. Of course, some success will emerge out of the logjam of movies that are up for assessment/re-assessment between now and New Year’s Day 2026. But despite that, another movie is making its case as a Tier 12 movie, with that one being “Boundaries”, due to it being a movie of the late Christopher Plummer that has the potential to be neck-and-neck with another movie of his in the fully guaranteed one, known as “Beginners”.

Well, the minimum of 131 movies for the 2,101 through 2,301 selection protocol is now two successful assessments/re-assessments away from graduation to Tier 5 finally happening. And given that one of the pending assessments/re-assessments is Melissa Barrera’s best-pre 2020s movie via the movie “Two Times You”, it’s a safe bet that the minimum of 131 movies for that selection protocol will be slightly exceeded.

Until the next time.
