Flickasbord, Volume 84

Sydney Sweeney’s character in “Anyone But You” is blasphemous yet again, as I’ve decided to grant three more post-June 25 pardons from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page. Let’s begin.

First up, in those three pardons, the Sean Penn movie “The Gunman” became the first of those three, due to A) The character name of Jim Terrier being an awesome one, B) The final fate of the main antagonist involving a bull and C) It having the vibe of a perfect Saturday afternoon movie. Second, there’s ‘DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp” because it has a unique connection two enshrined movies in “Oliver & Company” and “All Dogs Go To Heaven”. And finally, there’s “300: Rise Of An Empire”, due to its prequel, partial rehash and sequel style of storytelling possibly being well executed. So, for all those reasons, all three movies have moved to Tier 8 for re-assessment.

As of this coming Wednesday, 25 more movies remain on my 2024 theatrical tour and every one of them has a strong chance to be among the movies that will graduate to Tier 5. But of course, that was before my recon on Fandango led to me discovering that the movie “Strange Darling” is getting positive buzz ahead of its August 23 United States wide release date. So, given that and that movie featuring yet another eye candy appeal actress in Bianca A. Santos, I have decided to add that movie to the 2024 theatrical tour. May The Flickuum vying continue.

One of the reasons that I had “The Company Men” in The Project was that it’s chronologically a more positive one for Eamonn Walker, following “Blood And Bone”. But of course, certain aspects don’t work for the former of the two movies, thus why it being stopped dead in its tracks. So, with that being said, I searched Eamonn Walker’s filmography and found something to fill the post-Blood And Bone void, with that movie being “A Lonely Place To Die”. And given that his character is somewhat of a good guy, along with the movie looking good via its trailer, it’s going to further add to the savagery of movies that are attempting to make The Project.

And finally, there’s been a bit of pomposity in Emma Stone taking recent roles, such as “Poor Things” and “Kinds Of Kindness”, the latter of which is only one of four 2020s movies that forever resides on the One Hun-Dread page. I guess there’s a reason why Nadine Velazquez, Melissa Barrera and Eiza Gonzalez didn’t/don’t have that stigma attached to them via their movies (32 combined Flickuum movies), as all three of them are just way more naturally charismatic than the two-time Oscar winner. So, given that, the thought of another of one her (Emma Stone’s) movies battling movies that feature all three Latinas is a tantalizing one, therefore ‘Cruella” has been added to the logjam of assessments/re-assessments.

Well, progress on both the assessment/re-assessment front and evaluation front have hit a major snag, due to me figuring out how I can apply a balanced approach to each. But like all dueling fronts, I’ll figure it out.

Until the next time.
