I did vow this most recent June 25 that there wouldn’t be any more second-guessing about The Flickuum Project nor any more changes to the One Hun-Dread page. But since I granted multiple post-June 25 pardons from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page, I might as well make exceptions to those other two sets of rankings, so let’s begin.
First up, the 2011 Disney movie “Mars Needs Moms” has been giving me trouble in getting anything done at all, along with messing up my state of mind, due to the very dull color pallet and molasses-like plot. But maybe I wasn’t in the right state of mind during both my attempted evaluation of it and my attempted for fun viewing of it. So, with that being said, the attempted evaluation will be voided from The Flickuum rankings and granted a full re-assessment to reclaim an overall guaranteed Flickuum spot. Furthermore, to keep the amount of overall official guaranteed Flickuum spots at 2,100, the following has occurred:
- Shrek Forever After has been expedited from Tier 4 to Tier 3
- Donnybrook has moved up from Tier 5 to Tier 4
- Fury has moved up from Tier 7 to Tier 5, due to that Brad Pitt World War II era movie being neck-and-neck with another such movie in Inglorious Basterds
Alright, since I of course made that dramatic change to The Flickuum rankings, now comes the change to the One Hun-Dread page. Or should I say changes, as A) I hate “Kinds Of Kindness” so much that putting it as the fourth-worst movie on the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page is actually too generous, and B) Shemar Moore’s very first movie “Butter” is so bad that it’s neck-and-neck with one of the worst movies that I have ever reviewed, with that movie being “Diary Of A Mad Black Woman” a.k.a. another movie of his. So, with both points being said, those two movies have been added to the former of the two pages, in place of “Bill And Ted’s Bogus Journey” and the Paula Garces movie “Spin”.
Three days ago, I thought that the Tier 12 hub would remain at nine, due to one of Melissa Barrera’s pre-In The Heights movies (Two Times You) giving me a “take it or leave it” vibe. But after A) Reading the plot in greater detail online, B) Coming away liking it more than the 1,104th evaluation “Armored”, C) It growing on me and D) It being available on physical media (DVD) and with English subtitles available via that format, I decided to add it to that Tier 12 hub, thus making it the 10th such movie with a reserved Tier 7 spot. Now let’s see if those subtitles can come in handy all throughout the aforementioned DVD of that movie.
Alright, one post-June 25 change for the road, as I want to keep my current total on the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page at 1,900 even. So, with that being said, “Life As We Know It” will be sent to Tier 7 as the 122nd movie in the 2,101 through 2,301 selection protocol because that movie just has a nothing but The Flickuum vibe about it. Plus, it would be cool to have a Katherine Heigl movie battle a Nadine Velazquez movie March Madness style, especially since the latter is just four days older than the former.
All three times that I’ve seen “Up In The Air”, I chose “Tango & Cash” as the movie to subsequently watch right after it and it’s gone on to be one of the best movie tandems for The Flickuum Project. And now the star (George Clooney) of the former gets to be in his own version of the latter, as he will team up with Brad Pitt in the upcoming movie “Wolfs”, which is about two lone-wolf fixers that must work together on the same assignment. Yes, the two main characters are fixers and not police officers, but the banter and Clooney having a smooth delivery that is similar to Sylvester Stallone has turned this movie from a candidate to see via streaming to an addition to my 2024 theatrical tour.
Speaking of streaming, the long wait of when “Young Woman And The Sea” will come to streaming will finally end, as the Daisy Ridley-led movie will come to Disney+ one week from tomorrow. And of course, thanks to my sister Deanna allowing me to use her Disney+ account, I can get my answer of whether that movie will be a Flickuum movie or not sooner rather than later.
And finally, in another Melissa Barrera related item, the United States wide release theatrical date for “Your Monster” is now official, as I typed that movie’s title into the Fandango search engine and sure enough, the movie popped up. And as to when the United States wide release theatrical date for that movie will be, well it be this coming October 25, thus it will beat the New Year’s Day 2026 deadline. And given that this movie is tied with “My Penguin Friend” for most anticipated 2024 movie, all I have to say is that October 25 cannot come soon enough.
Well, I did have a setback in The Project via “Mars Needs Moms”, but re-assessing it will help me get back on track, regardless. And instead of trying to overthink my day-to-day schedule for the remainder of 2024, I’ll look at what I currently have on my pending evaluation roster and see what can be a tone-setting movie to regain the momentum that I had going into yesterday morning. And once I find the right combinations to regain that momentum, then I’ll overcome this mental fog that has been plaguing me for the past day-plus.
Until the next time.
