With all the reneging that I have made on the pact of no more pardons from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page, Sydney Sweeney’s character from “Anyone But You” is blasphemous again. But given that two movies on that page have aspects that warrant pardons, I’ll make an exception these last two times. Let’s begin.
First up, staying on the topic of the exception, I see the movie “Girlfight” in a whole new way, due to the character “Hector” reminding me of a person that I look up to. And that’s not the only reason why I see that movie in a whole new way because in addition, it’s a movie that has the potential to work well in an evaluation line-up with a movie like “Abigail”. And of course, that’s just one of the two exceptions because in addition, I was able to fathom the two things that bothered me about the Glen Powell movie “Hit Man”, therefore that movie is the other exception. But that’s it for post-June 25 pardons, period.
Between my theatrical scouting trip of “A Quiet Place: Day One” and my evaluation of “Witness”, I assessed/re-assessed seven other movies and fast-forwarded through an eighth one to get its ending for an eventual review. And of course, through all of that, that particular stretch produced four more future Flickuum movies in “Hit Man”, “Firebrand”, “Blackwater Lane” and “Hunt For The Wilderpeople”, three of which are awaiting hard copy confirmation. Or should I say five, as “Love Spreads” will be in The Flickuum Project, simply because the cheery charisma that Eiza Gonzalez displays throughout that movie is impossible to deny entry into The Project. So, because of that cheery charisma, that movie will join “Girlfight” in the 2,101 through 2,301 selection protocol.
The push to get a Beverley Mitchell movie into The Project is looking like a failed first attempt, as I found “Snowmen” to be mean-spirited, narcissistic, vapid and surprisingly plodding for its 85-minute runtime. And not only did those four things pretty much seal that movie’s fate because in addition, Beverley Mitchell was in just one scene, despite her being the top-billed actress for that movie. But I remain hopeful for her being a part of Flickuum lore, as I found three other movies of hers, with the hopes of one of them connecting. And as to what those three other movies of hers are, well they are “The Lost Episode”, “Broken: A Musical” and “Toxin”. Here’s hoping to one of them succeeding.
And finally, remember the video clip of John Harbaugh saying that his younger brother, Jim, shouldn’t be the only Harbaugh brother coaching in Super Bowl 47? Well, the abstract Flickuum equivalent of that is “Firebrand” being on the verge of making The Project and causing “The Watchers” to say that “Firebrand” shouldn’t be the only theatrically assessed movie of June 20, 2024 to make it. So, given that abstraction, “The Watchers” will get re-assessed either on or shortly after August 27. And no matter what, the Dakota Fanning-led movie will make The Project.
Well, the minimum of 131 movies to move up to Tier 5 is 12 away from being filled. And with more in both the pipeline and Tier 12 reserve area, the “Final 99” battle might change to a different number because of the possible overage for the 2,101 through 2,301 protocol. Stay tuned.
