Flickasbord, Volume 154

Well, I did vow to manufacture this 154th Flickasbord volume, as I generated just enough content before I eventually get into something very painstaking for number 155. But I’ll go through the content research of that upcoming blog entry with a fine-tooth comb between now and the second Monday of this month.

Let’s begin.

First up, that roommate of mine, who has thrown at least five recommendations my way since late-December 2024, threw me another one two days ago, with the latest one being “The Fault In Our Stars”. Of course, that one kept slipping through the cracks up until that point of two days ago. And given what I saw of it via the living room TV, I decided to add it to the roster, due to it having a vibe that is similar to both “Midnight Sun” and “Five Feet Apart”, the former of which was enshrined in late-December 2022, while the latter will be evaluated between now and my late-June theatrical outing of “M3GAN 2.0”. Yes, I’m confident that the stars will align for Shailene Woodley amassing a sixth (possibly seventh) Flickuum movie.

As a 10-year-old boy back in the summer of 1994, one of the most enjoyable things for me was watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers at 5 P.M. Eastern Standard Time and Saved By The Bell directly after that, especially since I went from Amy Jo Johnson to Tiffani-Amber Thiessen in that 5 P.M. to 6 P.M. block of time. Of course, so much has gone on in my life since then that I almost totally forgot about all of that nostalgia, only for me to binge watch the latter of the two shows earlier this decade. So, with that being said, I’ve wanted to have at least one Amy Jo Johnson movie go up against a Tiffani-Amber Thiessen movie March Madness style for quite some time now, thus I looked through the former’s filmography and found a movie worthy of an assessment. And as to what that movie is, well it’s “Veritas, Prince Of Truth” and the original Pink Ranger has a substantial role in it. Now let’s see if that movie can pass its assessment because she’s running out of chances at having a second Flickuum movie, especially since “Tiger Eyes” was 505 evaluations ago. Stay tuned.

Nearly a week ago, I watched a YouTuber’s video about his most under-rated movies of 2024, as I needed something on in the background during my selection process for the 1,649th fully guaranteed Flickuum spot. But that video turned into more than just background noise for me, as one of the movies that he cited was the Nick Stahl-led movie “What You Wish For”, which gave off a vibe that was similar to both “The Menu” and “Blink Twice”. Of course, I’m a fan of both of those movies, thus I decided to add that movie to the roster. I guess movies of that ilk do come in threes, although that movie hasn’t been assessed yet.

Back when I worked the traditional job route, the place that I worked at had items on display for anyone to claim, due to that place being a nonprofit organization. And be unbeknownst to most of you, one of my physical media items in The African Queen (format VHS tape) was a claimed display item. However, that wasn’t my first such item at that place. Instead, that distinction went to the DVD of “Pump Up The Volume” nearly two decades ago, only for me to stupidly discard it without even watching it. But since I went down recollection lane last weekend, I suddenly remembered that movie again, therefore I’ll go get another DVD of it via eBay since it’s unavailable via all streaming platforms. Yes, another reason why it’s not always a good idea to rely on streaming, as movies like “Sling Blade” and “The Dreamers” also suffer from being unavailable via streaming. And given that I’ve been consistently old school about which format that I want for every fully guaranteed Flickumm movie, well then I’ll steer you in the right direction about accessibility to any movie that you want to see.

For about the past month, I’ve been going to one Regal in particular. And every time that I departed that particular Regal during that/this span, I always walked by a poster for the movie “Green And Gold”, which features the now 81-year-old Craig T. Wilson and was also the final movie of M. Emmett Walsh, the latter of whom passed away three days shy of his 89th birthday in March 2024. Of course, I like both of those actors and I like the plot of that movie, which is about common folk trying to overcome economic struggle in the midwestern part of the United States. So, with all of that being said, I went ahead and added that movie to the roster, especially since it sounds way too good to languish as a movie (released in 2025) fighting for a Final 99 spot in The Project.

My glut of accessible assessments/re-assessments is so backlogged that I haven’t even gotten around to assess the Sofia Carson movie “Purple Hearts”, and I added that one to the assessment/re-assessment roster a little over two months ago. And of course, this paragraph is about the heart-and-soul of “Carry-On”, as she has another movie, entitled “The Life List”. And given how dynamic of an actress that she is, I’ve gone ahead and doubled down on movies of hers for the roster.

When it comes to the movie “Upgraded”, I’ve maintained since late-August 2024 that it’s the best of Camila Mendes’ movies to the point that I felt “Musica” would be a subsequent letdown for her. But just like the movie that will be mentioned in the next paragraph, I want to give it a complete look, as I crashed (fell asleep) during that one last April. Plus, who knows what will come of that post-Upgraded movie, because maybe it won’t be a letdown after all. Stay tuned.

And finally, this is my final favor to movies on the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page, as I fell asleep during my assessment of “Eragon”. And of course, given that that movie has a lot to like about it, it will be the LAST EVER pardon from the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page. Now let’s see if this pardon can be justified.

Well, progress in both clearing the roster and evaluating movies is once again very slow, due in part to movies being pesky (Eragon) about wanting one more chance to prove if they are Flickuum worthy or not, thus blog entries like this one. But I won’t be writing another Flickasbord entry until the midpoint of this month, thus it’s time that I start making way more progress on both fronts.

Until April 15, 2025.
