Flickasbord, Volume 146

Getting the best 4,000 movies in The Flickuum Project remains an ongoing process, as nothing on the assessment/re-assessment roster (prior to this entry) is a guaranteed lock to make it before the New Year’s Day 2027 deadline. Plus, there’s a surplus of open “pre-Dream Scenario” spots even with the roster having its current massive quantity, thus more addition.

Let’s begin.

First up, I don’t know how I forgot to put “The Accountant 2” on the roster since it’s the sequel to the The Flickuum’s third-ranked Ben Affleck movie, along with the facts that it will feature Daniella Pineda and it’s going to be a part of my 2025 theatrical tour. But of course, that forgetfulness is now a moot point, as I’ve since added it that movie to the roster.

Going from one upcoming 2025 release to another, I saw the “The Alto Knights” trailer for the very first time yesterday and came away thinking that Robert De Niro is going back to his old school acting style in that movie. And of course, I’m a big fan of his old school acting style via such movies as “Goodfellas” and “Casino”, thus his upcoming movie has instantly gone from a possible Final 99 candidate to a must-add to the roster.

Yesterday was a milestone for one of our action movie legends, as Bruce Willis turned 70 years of age. Of course, I love paying homage to celebrities that I like, whether it’s choosing a movie of theirs for the roster or choosing a movie for a certain evaluation number in homage to their birthday. So, with all of that being said, I can do the former now, thus I have added “The Story Of Us” to the roster.

In one of my past Flickasbord entries, I mentioned “Get Rich Or Die Tryin” in not so favorable terms, thus hinting at sending it to the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page. But after realizing that I want to see Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s performance in that movie at least one more time, I have decided to take a flier on it for re-assessment.

I like the old school Hollywood drifter buddy movies, such as “Easy Rider”. And given that I want to put more respect to the name of the late Gene Hackman, I have put Scarecrow (his favorite performance according to him) up for eventual re-assessment, especially since I assessed both of those movies within six days of each other back in August 2017. And of course, there’s another old school Hollywood movie that was compared to both of those movies and vice versa, with that movie being “Midnight Cowboy”. So, given that and the fact that I’m sometimes a believer in things coming in threes, I have added the Jon Voight-Dustin Hoffman collaboration to the roster. Maybe I’ll re-assess the aforementioned “Scarecrow” six days after assessing the aforementioned “Midnight Cowboy”. Stay tuned.

Alright, the once over of Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention movies isn’t final as of yet, as 15 other/additional movies each gave me reason for re-assessment. However, these 15 other/additional movies will truly make up the last ever once over, so no more up for eventual pardons after this. And of course, since all 15 of these other/additional movies are being grouped together, they will all be mentioned via the chart format:

MovieWhy it’s up for eventual pardon
Dick TracyThis movie can pair up perfectly with “The Rocketeer”, can be a good complimentary movie to “Empire”, and has the “Scarecrow” and “Midnight Cowboy” cross-over via the appearances of Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman.
Mad MaxThere has to be some sort of justification for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” to be assessed, especially since that movie possibly making The Project without a Mel Gibson “Mad Max” movie doesn’t feel right.
The Road WarriorThis movie and the one that’s listed above it are tethered together, no matter what.
Shaft ‘71Shaft ’00 will be a much-needed hammer for The Project, but this movie paved the way for it, thus the 54-year-old movie will be going into The Project.
Shaft ‘19This movie provides a good (and long-awaited) follow-up to the 25-year-old Samuel L. Jackson-led movie.
So I Married An Axe MurdererSome movies have that quirky “it” factor. This movie is one of those movies.
The InformerThis movie might be more complete than I had originally thought.
After The SunsetThis movie paved the way for “The World Is Not Enough” getting into The Project.
SpreadMaybe Nikki (Ashton Kutcher) will change for the better after all.
The Last ShiftThis movie has the combination of having a cozy vibe and being bittersweet.
Broken FlowersThe indecision about both “Frida” and “Miss Arizona” clouded the execution of this movie’s re-assessment.
What We Do In The ShadowsThe presence of Chelsie Preston-Crayford gives this movie another chance.
Fool’s GoldIf Broken Flowers can be re-assessed, then this movie should be as well.
Three Thousand Years Of LongingWell now that The Project is at 4,000 movies, here’s the perfect movie for the 3,000th evaluation.
The MatadorThis movie could be an unlikely jump-starter for The Project.

When it comes to finding information for new/upcoming movies, FirstShowing.net is one of my go-to websites/apps for that movie, as it has been helping me plan my theatrical outings for 2025. But of course, that’s not all that that website has helped me with because in addition, it has helped me find some more 2026 movies that could beat the deadline, with those movies being “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”, “Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat”, “Avengers: Doomsday”, “Mega Minions”, the third Dwayne Johnson “Jumanji” movie and “Shrek 5”, with the latter two coming via Sony and Universal, respectively. And of course, they have been joined by another upcoming 2025 movie in “The Ballad Of Wallis Island”, which is giving off “The Secret Of Roan Inish” vibes from an aesthetic standpoint.

And finally, I took a shot in the dark via typing “watch the movie ‘Sacudete Las Penas’ online” into the Google search engine, as none of the streaming platforms have it accessible for me to assess. But luckily, that shot in the dark led to me finding it available on DVD via Amazon, thus I went right ahead and purchased it. Yes, it’s a risky move since I’ve been burned with movies, such as “Broken Hill”. But after seeing Melissa Barrera in that movie’s trailer, I know that I’m going to find a hidden gem with that movie just like I did with “Two Times You”.

Well, I cleared “Survivor”, “Black Bag” and “Held Up” from the roster, with the second of those three movies emerging as the eventual best Steven Soderbergh movie for The Project. But many more roster decisions still have to be made and at a much quicker pace, or else the already long waits for both “The Bounce Back” and “In The Heights” will be even longer and excruciating at that.

Stay tuned.
