Flickasbord, Volume 137

Things have been slow once again in completing assessments/re-assessments, but that’s par for the course when the goal of completing 90 Flickuum evaluations (18 down, 72 to go) in a 45-day period comes into play. And that won’t change the fact that the assessment/re-assessment roster will continue to have addition to it.

Let’s begin.

First up, I’ve been back and forth about whether to re-assess the trio of “The Express”, “Invincible” and “The Fighter” or not. But the brief yet impactful scene of Rudy sacking the Georgia Tech quarterback, in what is my favorite scene of the 1,217th evaluation, paves the way for two of those movies, as both what the late Ernie Davis did for Syracuse University and what Vince Papale did for the Philadelphia Eagles (the newly-crowned Super Bowl champion) were/are/always will be as impactful as what Rudy Ruettiger did for the University of Notre Dame. And given that I feel that the third movie (The Fighter) could be neck-and-neck with the aforementioned Vince Papale biopic, on the basis of both movies being Mark Wahlberg movies, the 2010 boxing biopic will also be pardoned for re-assessment. Now let’s see if all three of those movies can make the most of the opportunities that were very recently granted to “Not Easily Broken”, “Little” and “Holidate”.

Mistaking one movie with another, on the basis of both movies having the same exact title, happened four days ago, as the person who recommended the movie “Nowhere” to me subsequently recommended the baseball movie “Twelve” to me, due to me mentioning to her that I evaluated the Chace Crawford-led movie for evaluation number 1,212. Regardless, I eventually added her recommendation to my roster, because I think an uplifting baseball movie with the same exact title can outrank evaluation number 1,212.

So far this month, 18 movies have followed “Over The Hedge” into The Flickuum page rankings, with owners (The Way Way Back, The Best Man Holiday) of two of the longest then-active wait times being among them. But the one that’s been the toast of those particular 18 is “M3GAN”, due to it being both a uniquely cool movie with memorable characters and a textbook Universal-Blumhouse movie. Of course, we are no doubt getting a sequel to the 1,210th Flickuum evaluation, which is set for a United States (international readers, please check your upcoming local listings) wide theatrical release on June 27, 2025. However, what I (and possibly many others) didn’t/don’t know was/is that there will be a spin-off movie in the “M3GAN Cinematic Universe”, entitled “SOULM8TE” and will feature Lily Sullivan. And not only will we get this spin-off movie because in addition, we will get it on the second day of 2026. So, given the “M3GAN” connection and the presence of Lily Sullivan, I think I know what my first 2026 theatrical outing will be.

Ever since assessing “The Menu” on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving 2022, I have been on a mission looking for additional Aimee Carrero movies, as she’s my favorite character in that movie. Of course, her filmography isn’t exactly expansive on the level of Anna Kendrick, but it also isn’t bereft of options, thus I have three of her movies on the roster. Or should I say four, as I recently added “Blue Lagoon: The Awakening” to it, due to her presence, along with it giving me the vibes of a mid-1990s made-for-TV movie starring Tiffani-Amber Thiessen in her post-Saved By The Bell phase. Now let’s see if the Dominican-Puerto Rican actress can turn her two (The Menu, Upgraded) for The Project into a three, four, five and/or six via that movie, “The Last Witch Hunter”, “Spirited” and/or “Holidate”.

And finally, Allison Williams was who drew me to “M3GAN”, but I subsequently gained other reasons about why I like that movie, with two of them being Jen Van Epps and Chelsie Preston Crayford. So, with that being said, I explored their filmographies to see if they had additional Flickuum-worthy movies for me to add to the roster, to which they did with the former having “Don’t Make Me Go” and the latter having “Nude Tuesday”. Now let’s see if they can amass multiple Flickuum movies just like their “M3GAN” castmates Williams and Ronny Chieng have.

Well, I continue to make the most of finding additional assessments/re-assessments before the New Year’s Day 2027 deadline. And while evaluations continuously cause a lack of reducing the assessment/re-assessment roster, I was able to amass a successful assessment/re-assessment for the 10th time this calendar year via liking “Spring Breakers” way more than I did during my assessment of it in mid-November 2018. And while I got 36 more days of a two-evaluation per day quota to go, I’m confident that I can find some more time reducing that roster.

Until the next time.
