Flickasbord, Volume 109

After feeling struggling to fathom the reality of not seeing a Nadine Velazquez movie until evaluation time and on the heels of re-assessing three possibly mediocre movies, I have decided to alter the history of my movie-reviewing career. Let’s begin.

First up, in that history-altering move, I have decided to re-assess “Chasing Papi” again, as A] That sexy Puerto Rican actress is in that movie and B] I have a feeling that it can outrank “Material Girls” in The Flickuum Project. So, with Point B being said, I’m going to replace the former of the two movies with “The Wood” in my third movie review set, entitled “Permanently Shed From The Ton”, since the Omar Epps-led movie was an attempted evaluation that has since become permanently banned. However, this will be the last ever time that a pardon will be granted for a movie that is on the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page. Plus, that set is going to get some revisions, so stay tuned.

I teased the Kevin Bacon “Quicksilver” as one of the next movies that will be added to the assessment/re-assessment roster yet have slacked on making that addition official. But that has changed, as I constantly gave myself mental reminders to add it to that roster since I had a lot of idle time in between my re-assessment of “Morgan” and now. And should that reminder be a worthy one, then that’s going to be yet another degree of Kevin Bacon added to The Project.

Staying in the topic of movies that begin with the letter “Q”, I’ve been contemplating the possibility of assessing “Queen Of The Damned”, as that Aaliyah Haughton movie could replace her other movie [Romeo Must Die] in The Project. Of course, I have been skeptical multiple times about considering her second [and final] movie for The Project, but it could be a worthy gamble like “Tarot” was in late-May of this year. Stay tuned.

Other than the upcoming “Spellbound”, which will get released exactly a month from this coming Tuesday, there are no other digitally released movies for me to assess. Or should I say were, as I actually had two kicking around in my Amazon queue, followed by thinking up three more, thus bringing that total to five. And as to what those five are, simply view the chart below:

MovieWhy it has been added to Tier 10
Killer HeatShailene Woodley lives up to the “Heat” aspect of the title, because she looks like such a smoke show in that movie.
French GirlIt’s time to check some more of Vanessa Hudgens’ work.
Woman Of The HourAnna Kendrick’s digitally released movies are 1-for-3 in making The Project, as neither “Stowaway” nor “Self Reliance” are on the level of “Noelle”. Let’ see if her directorial debut can be on the level of the latter of those other three movies or not.
CinderellaCamila Cabello needs redemption after the disappointment that was “Rob Peace”.
The Magician’s ElephantMovies that have Nadine Velazquez, Melissa Barrera or both have proven to work well with Benedict Wong movies in The Project, as “Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings” was in the same evaluation line-up as both “Husband For Hire” and “Scream VI”. And given that “Chasing Papi” and possibly “Your Monster” are coming up in the foreseeable group of assessments/re-assessments, this movie that features Wong could come into play as a possibility in replicating that late-June 2024 run.

And finally, some movies just have that vibe of working well with either “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”, “Bottoms” or “The Substance”, especially since a particular movie was assessed after the former of those three. And as to what that movie is, well it’s the 2020 version of “The Invisible Man”, as it has that subtly scary vibe that can either work well with the latter of the three movies in an evaluation or be evaluated directly before a for fun viewing of the second of those three movies. So, given that specific versatility, the Leigh Whannell-directed will get a second re-assessment yet will fall under the group of movies that need a different movie to fail its assessment/re-assessment. Stay tuned.

Well, I feel rejuvenated after that trio of likely disappointments in “My Giant”, “Narc” and “Morgan”, especially since one of my upcoming assessments/re-assessments will feature Nadine Velazquez. And given that “Chasing Papi” will be grouped with other dynamic movies, I’ll definitely amass a minimum of 43 movies so that five of them can graduate to Tier 5 before November 20.

Until the next time.
