Over the past two days, I compiled a list of movies (30 to be exact) that I’m highly anticipating in 2024. And of course, with that being said, there could be more popping up on my radar this calendar year, although a lot of that is still unconfirmed.
However, one thing that I can confirm is Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” will be coming out Christmas Day 2024, which has very recently piqued my wonderment for the simple fact that he is going to maximize the talent of Bill Skarsgard, whose older brother (Alexander) appeared in the 2022 Eggers movie “The Northman”. And as to what I think of “The Northman”? Well, that’s my favorite Eggers movie, with him maximizing the talent of the eldest Skarsgard sibling being one of the reasons why, so you know my expectations for “Nosferatu” will be high. And as to whether it will make my 2024 theatrical tour or not, well it all depends on when I see both “Sonic The Hedgehog 3” and “Mufasa: The Lion King”, as those two movies both come out on the Friday before Christmas 2024. So, given that, the new Robert Eggers movie might be one of my first ones that I see theatrically in 2025.
Speaking of 2025, that might be the year that we get a United States theatrical release of the third Paddington movie since I haven’t heard anything about it being a 2024 United States theatrical release. And given the reshoots that might have to be done via Rachel Zegler being replaced in the cast, 2025 is the more likely United States theatrical release year of that third Paddington movie. So, given that scenario, that movie will be one of my most highly anticipated 2025 movies, especially since I’m a fan of the first two Paddington movies.
One thing that I can say with absolute certainty is that Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse won’t be coming out in March 2024, as A] The producers of that movie will want to take their time in having an epic conclusion to that computer-animated trilogy and B] Production was disrupted, thanks to The Frandemic. But Point B could be a blessing in disguise, given the strong possibility of it having a runtime that’s either near, at or over two hours. Regardless of what year that this movie comes out, it’s going to be among the most highly anticipated.
Another rumor that I heard for 2024 is that a third Knives Out movie will be coming out, although no release date has been confirmed. And given that it’s still in production according to IMDB, a 2024 release date is a little too ambitious I feel. But regardless of what year that it does come out, I’ll be anticipating it because I’m a fan of the first two Benoit Blanc installments.
Alright, so the reason that I expanded the favorite movies project amount from 2,200 to 2,300 is because certain movies that I like could get sequels. One of those such movies is M3GAN, which could very well go down as my all-time favorite Blumhouse movie. And although it’s in pre-production right now, it’s on track for a 01/17/25 theatrical release date, barring any setbacks. Plus, given my aforementioned fanhood of the first one, you can bet the sequel being one of my most anticipated movies for 2025.
Following the re-opening of movie theaters in 2021, Disney has had one non-Pixar animated theatrical November release during each of those three (2021, 2022, 2023) years. And with that being said, a theatrical release for a non-Pixar Disney animated movie is slated for this coming November, per a YouTube video that I saw three days ago. And although it’s not confirmed what the movie will be, there are premature indications of it either a third Frozen movie or a second Zootopia movie. And should either of those premature indications lead to confirmation, then sign me up.
Finally, there’s the matter of the studio “A24”, which has been brought to my attention via both me seeing the movie “The Iron Claw” theatrically and the trailer for “Love Lies Bleeding” before the former of the two movies finally began. Anyways, the trailer for the latter of the two movies had a 1980s aesthetic to it, along with it having a relentless grit/griminess that most 1980s action movies themselves don’t have, especially with the many musical scores that sound somewhat out of place. Furthermore, the gritty/grimy vibe that it gives off caused the ripple effect of A] Me deciding to re-assess the grindhouse homage movie “X”, B] Me deciding to assess “Pearl”, which is the prequel to “X”, C] Me deciding to add the “X” sequel, “MaXXXine”, to my list of new/fairly new movies to see and D] Me deciding to assess “Saint Maud”, as that was directed by Rose Glass, the director of the aforementioned “Love Lies Bleeding”. And that’s not the only common thread that those four movies now share because in addition, they were/will be released by A24, a studio that I’m starting to see in a whole new light.
Well, this should be my last blog entry about upcoming movies for the foreseeable future, as the internet has given me a lot to look forward to for at least the next two years. But that could be subject to change if something else foreseeably comes out of the woodwork or if the stock for “Wicked Part 1” begins to rise in The Flickuum universe.
Tune in during the upcoming week to find out if new/fairly new movies need to tank in order for X, Pearl and/or Saint Maud to make the Project.
