Flickasbord, Volume 230

**Note: The following content has controversial wording. Discretion is advised

Well, I made that most recent leap in The Flickuum Project, as I’ve already completed seven of the eight scheduled evaluations for this month and did so in a span of three days. And speaking of eight, well that’s how many successful assessments/re-assessments have been conducted thus far this month, so they will one day join the group that both was first started by “Wildcats”, and is on the verge of rounding out to 1,500 with “John Wick: Chapter 2”. But of course, this entry isn’t about any of that, as it’s instead about 18 brand new additions to the assessment/re-assessment roster, as well as five Tier 12 movies that will be added to the marathon of seven 2023 (and newer) movies that will be re-assessed this coming Friday into a week from today.

Let’s begin.

First up, there are always those movies with those titles that sound so terrible that you want to forget them yet they still manage to find a way to stand out in your mind. And for me, that movie was “S#!%house”, because it sounded like a movie that could have had (still needs confirmation) too many nauseating bathroom humor scenes. But after finding out that Dylan Galula plays the resident assistant that the main character forges a strong bond with, I decided to throw that pre-conceived notion to the wind to take a flier on it. Granted, those nauseating bathroom humor scenes might be in this movie, but the strong bond overpowers that possibility, so I could be in for a pleasant surprise. Stay tuned.

Just when I think that I have Dreamworks and their animated movies format all figured out, they throw in a curveball, i.e. “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken” in 2023. So, with that being said, they threw in another such curveball (in trailer form) when I went to go see “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” three days ago, with the trailer being for this movie called “Forgotten Island”. And just like the former of those two movies, the upcoming Dreamworks movie has graphics so amazing that I’ll totally take a theatrical trip to see them in late-September or early-October 2026. Now I just need to wait for about four to five months to find accessibility to assess it, especially since it could also give Liza Soberano a second Flickuum movie and she was/is my favorite character in “Lisa Frankenstein”.

Surfing Amazon Prime to look for “The Station Agent” three days ago, I noticed that they had not one (but two) original releases, entitled “Balls Up” and “Pretty Lethal”. Of course, they were barely blips on The Flickuum radar screen until A) I noticed Daniela Melchior among the names of the cast in the former, and B) The latter could fill the “Suspiria” void in The Project. So, with both of those points being made, I’m going to add both of those movies to the Prime queue to see if they will join other Amazon original releases in The Project, i.e. “Heads Of State”.

As someone who likes online orders that come with free shipping, I had the challenge of making the Amazon $35 minimum two days ago, especially since I wanted to get a fourth fully guaranteed Flickuum movie in my order of three such movies (The Northman, Air, Law Abiding Citizen), and a movie (Talk To Me) that I passed up a second time in a particular Walmart $5 bin 17 days ago. So, instead, I made the blind flier purchase of the movie “It Follows” since A) It was one of those limited time $5 to $10 range Amazon deals, and B) I wanted to be frugal with this particular order. But what could be a throw-in with four overall guaranteed Flickuum movies could be a high reward for The Project, as the Maika Monroe-led movie has been dubbed as one of the more acclaimed horror movies of the last 10-plus years. Now I just need to continue reducing the pre-Final 95 overage, especially since I plan to assess it before evaluations resume this coming May 1 with “The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter”.

If there’s an actor that’s been on overdrive (no, not the Scott Eastwood movie) since late-2022, it’s Nicholas Hoult, because take a look at the run of his since that point; The Menu, Renfield, The Garfield Movie, The Order, Juror #2, Nosferatu and Superman. Yes, that’s seven movies, four of which were released in 2024 alone, and all of them are either enshrined or will be enshrined. And unlike Ryan Reynolds, whom I got tired of seeing in seemingly every fucking thing pre-Bloomgate, Hoult has the super power of not making viewers tired of him, especially since he has impressive versatility. But that versatility might have not come to fruition if he didn’t get the role of Marcus Brewer in “About A Boy”, which I kept overlooking, due to me mixing it up with another Hugh Grant movie in “Two Weeks Notice”. And while I’m still on the fence about seeing the latter, I have added the former to the roster, because it very likely opened all of those other doors for Multi-Flick Nick.

Sometime whether during my break from my eventual five-episode marathon of “Bob’s Burgers” two days ago, before that marathon or after that marathon, I surfed the pre-order section of iTunes to see how up to date that it had gotten, especially since I rely on it to try to find rental availability dates for movies, such as “Forbidden Fruits”, but no dice on that…yet. Anyways, I noticed that Alexandra Daddario has a movie in that section, entitled “Couples Weekend”, and it looks like one of those diabolical dark comedies that I gravitate towards, especially after seeing its trailer. So, yeah, I’ve added it to the roster for that reason, as well as Daddario possibly adding something new to her repertoire via her portrayal of the character “Debs”. Now it’s only a matter of accessibility to assess it.

The late Rob Reiner gave us quite a vast filmography of movies, in terms of him being a director, as he went from directing an adaption of a Stephen King book (Stand By Me) one year (1986) to directing “The Princess Bride” the very next. And that’s just the tip of that iceberg, as he also directed multiple movies that are currently on the assessment/re-assessment roster. And now you can add “Flipped” to the roster, as A] Its poster stood out to me during the December 2025 Double Toasted video about him, and B] It had/has the refreshing Cody Horn among its cast. Now let’s see if his total of five Flickuum directorial efforts increases with the 2010 movie.

I’ll admit, I don’t know the entire history of the Sundance Film Festival, but I do know that it has cranked out some overall guaranteed Flickuum movies in “Your Monster”, “Love Lies Bleeding”, “Undertone” and my favorite 2002 movie “Empire”. And not only has that festival cranked out those movies, because in addition, it has also cranked out yet-to-be-assessed movies in “Me And Earl And The Dying Girl”, as well as one that jumped out to me via Tubi yesterday morning. And as to what that one was, well it was a movie called “Terri”, which has John C. Reilly as a school principal attempting to help one of his students overcome his struggles. So, given that, it’s yet another commendable role for an actor, whom has magically avoided being typecast in “Step Brothers” type movies, thus it has been added to the roster. Now let’s see if commendable translates to overall guaranteed for the 2011 Sundance release.

For the third time in less than a year, I re-assessed “The Unbreakable Boy” and thought to myself, “Oh fuck, this experience is no different than the other two”. But after seeing the pet lizard named Marty McFly wearing a tiny little Santa hat in a scene during that third re-assessment, I instead thought that that scene alone was totally deserving of Flickuum lore, along with the fact that no one else was an asshole to that lizard, unlike Napoleon Dynamite being an asshole to that llama named Tina. Plus, the thought of the latter of those two movies just angers me, thus Tina unfortunately cannot be a part of Flickuum lore. But I also think that llamas are cute, thus I did a Google search of movies that have llamas in them and came across two that really stood out to me. And as to what those two movies were, well they were “Kukuli”, which I can only find on YouTube, and “The Big Blue”, which is yet another one of those majestic late-1980s/early-1990s movies. Now let’s see if doubling down on movies that have llamas in them leads to those two particular movies getting homes among the 5,000 or not.

I’ll be honest, I’ve found Jennifer Beals to be hot in whatever she has appeared in, thus why my wonderment led me to her Celebrity Archive Movie page. Of course, full exposure of a certain body part of hers was documented in the photo stills of the recently assessed “Dr. M”, but that movie otherwise has way too much to overcome as a “post-La Mujer De Mi Hermano” competitor in Tier 13. So, with that being said, my wonderment brought me back to that page, and I discovered that she did the full or near-full exposure thing in three other movies of hers, which were/are “Blood And Concrete, A Love Story”, “The Prophecy II” and “Vampire’s Kiss”, thus I’ve added them to the roster. Of course, the second of those three movies is a part of a five-movie franchise, therefore I’ve also added the other four “Prophecy” installments to the roster.

And finally, five more Tier 12 movies will be getting last chance re-assessments, because I judged them somewhat unfavorably in 2026. And of course, they will be re-assessed along with the septet (The Boy And The Heron, Afterburn, Fixed, A Little Prayer, Emily, Night Patrol, The Ballad Of Wallis Island) of re-assessments that I mentioned in the blog entry “The DEF Caboose: The Top Seven Tier 12 Movies”. And as to which movies will turn that septet into a dozen, well you can find out via the chart below:

Tier 12 MovieReason for re-assessment
WildflowerBeing blasphemous in a prayer was my only complaint about this movie, but the presence of Alexandra Daddario, and the family dog turning up completely unharmed both could more than make up for that.
Night Always ComesThe outcome for Lynette is starting to make more sense to me two weeks after both assessing, and re-assessing this movie. Plus, I’m increasingly seeing similarities between it and the Safdie Brothers movie “Good Time”. Oh, and fun fact; Jennifer Jason Leigh appears in both movies.
Janet PlanetI like the Massachusetts locales in this movie and looking back on it, I prefer the ending of this movie over the ending of “River’s Edge”, the latter of which is Flickuum evaluation 572.
This Is Not A TestI like the hunker down in overcast weather during zombie apocalypse aspect. Plus, since I’m re-assessing “Night Patrol”, I feel that I need to at least re-asses this movie as well.
Love MeThe various slice of life visuals alone are worthy of a re-assessment.

Well, I’m at a +103 overage of pre-Final 95 movies, although it’s really +100, as the currently vacated spots of “The Station Agent”, “Titane” and “Infinity Pool” haven’t been claimed by the current top three overage movies, and I’ve intentionally done that to reserve an overall guaranteed Flickuum spot for the Emma Mackey movie “Hot Milk”, as I feel (pending an assessment) that it can be neck-and-neck with another movie of hers in “Eiffel”. Yes, Flickuum roster management continues, and it’s time to see which movies will join “All The President’s Men” in Tier 14 between now and this coming Tuesday night. Oh yeah, and before I wrap this up, I have included a comments section below for this entry, specifically for the five chart movies, yet anyone who comments can also weigh in on any of the other aspects that pertain to this entry. And while this is a movie blog entry, I don’t mind comments about “Bob’s Burgers” being left in the comment section at all, because it’s one of the many content points included in this 230th Flickasbord volume.

Until the next time.
