Flickasbord, Volume 220

**Note: The following content has controversial wording. Discretion is advised

Tomorrow is 2/20, as in February 20. And tomorrow is also the 20-year anniversary of The Flickuum Project, so today is apropos to write this 220th Flickasbord entry, especially since I have a pair of other time-sensitive assignments on the docket for tomorrow.

Let’s begin.

First up, I like the vibe of the Universal horror movies that Jordan Peele has directed and/or produced, as he set the bar right off the bat with “Get Out”, and that has carried over to the trio of “Nope”, “Him” and “Us”. But up until three days ago, I had no idea that he was involved in a fifth Universal horror movie, with it being the direct sequel (released in 2021) to the 1992 movie “Candyman”. Of course, the “Candyman” franchise was nothing but an afterthought to me since I first heard about it in 1995. But with the momentum that Monkeypaw Productions has built up for The Project, I of course changed my tune about that franchise, thus I have added all four installments to the assessment/re-assessment roster. Now let’s see if A] The entirety of another movie franchise makes The Project, and B] Jordan Peele maintains his perfect track record for Universal horror movies.

Tomorrow night is going to be the most-anticipated Flickuum evaluation since “Dumbo ’19”, as “John Wick” will finally join the group that was first started by “Wildcats” and last extended by “Sex Tape”. And of course, when it comes to the first installment of arguably Keanu Reeves’ most iconic character, movies that were assessed/re-assessed, prior to it and within that late-February 2023/early-March 2023 window, have gotten or will get additional chances, such as the newly pardoned “7 Chinese Brothers”, since Eleanore Pienta needs to be a part of Flickuum lore. And while her, along with other components, make that movie deserving of that lore, I went into scouting her filmography with the revised thought of netting two of her movies for The Project, thus deciding to also add “See You Next Tuesday” to the roster since it’s another movie that gives her a substantial role. Yes, another smokin’ hot Latina actress will be a part of The Project in some capacity, and all thanks to the greatest movie hitman of all-time.

Throughout this Flickasbord series, I’ve mentioned one of the people that I used to buy from via Etsy a time or two, as I check his website to see if there are any other unknown movies worthy of assessment. And as it turned out three days ago, there was, with that movie being “The Rats: A Witcher Tale”, because that title sounds cool as fuck. However, there’s a difference between cool as fuck movie title and a Flickuum movie, as the eye test is always the deciding factor in what makes the final cut. So, in other words, stay tuned.

When it comes to 2023 and newer movies, well there will never be a shortage of those, due to both the trailers that I see and what I notice on Fandango. So, with that being said, four more such movies join the loaded roster, and both their titles and reasons for addition can be seen via the chart below:

MovieWhy it has been added to the roster
HokumThe trailer reminds me of a Robert Eggers movie, to the point that I thought it was for “Werewulf”. But instead, it’s a movie about a witch, and the visuals of it jumped out at me, to the point that it could be the pleasant surprise of 2026.
TunerThis movie could very likely give Dustin Hoffman “post-Megalopolis” redemption, and the fact that it has the vibe of tonally turning on a dime, via its trailer, makes it another worthy addition to the roster, as well as possibly an addition to the 2026 theatrical tour.
They Will Kill YouHorror comedy movies of a one-person army going up against a bunch of villains are almost always a bonkers good time, and this movie via its trailer falls under that category. And given how well-balanced that next month will be, this movie could very likely be a part of the March leg of the 2026 theatrical tour.
Forbidden FruitsStaying in the realm of horror comedy, I noticed this movie when I was looking up information for “This Is Not A Test” and thought it had the vibe of an entertaining “girl power” movie, along the lines of “Bottoms”, even though the first enshrined 2023 Flickuum movie is not a horror comedy at all. Still, that common thread, as well as the presence of Lili Reinhart, were more than enough to convince me to add it to the roster.

In most likely the next Flickuum related entry, I’ll delve into the seven Tier 12 movies that might get the same/a similar status as “Los Frikis”, which was being totally exempt from that tier and making it to Tier 5 after being successfully obtained via physical copy. Furthermore, one of those movies is “Night Patrol”, due to Freddie Gibbs playing the memorable character “Bornelius”. But of course, this paragraph isn’t about that movie. Instead, it’s about another Freddie Gibbs movie, with it being “Down With The King”, simply because that movie could represent his contribution to The Project, in place of the aforementioned “Night Patrol”. But one could become two, due to what I had alluded in the beginning of this paragraph, so stay tuned.

And finally, the powerhouse, known as Keanu Reeves, continues his almost 12 years worth of resurgence, as his next movie “Outcome” debuts via Apple on April 10. The movie, which falls under five different genres, has that vibe of being bizarrely entertaining, kind of like his last movie “Good Fortune”. Plus, it reunites him with “Feeling Minnesota” cast mate Cameron Diaz and features Kaia Gerber, the latter of whom needs “post-Shell” redemption, thus it could be another Apple Original home run.

Well, the surplus of open “pre-Dream Scenario” spots has dwindled again, due to A] These 12 blogged about movies and B] The final five pardons, one of which is “7 Chinese Brothers”. And while one spot has opened up via the unsuccessful re-assessment of “The Rhythm Section”, that might not matter, as decisions about both the top seven movies of Tier 12, and 56 of the 68 movies ranked 26 through 93 in Tier 13 could cause multiple bouts of number-crunching. But hey, all of these scenarios are also my doing and given the excitement of it all, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Until the next time.
