Flickasbord, Volume 189

**Note: The following content has controversial wording. Discretion is advised

I did give a sneak preview of this entry back in Volume 188 yet didn’t know exactly when I would write it. But with all the stuff that came not too long after that small tidbit, as well as me needing a few more hours to regain my ability to focus on evaluating movies, I decided that the “exactly” would be now.

Let’s begin.

First up, the content of this paragraph doesn’t need any more explanation, as the same person, whom recommended “4:44 Last Day On Earth” to me, also made inquires about the movies “Enough” and “The Human Centipede (First Sequence)”, from the standpoint if I saw either of them or not. Of course, my answer about those two movies was no, but since she asked me about them before she mentioned the Willem Dafoe-led movie, I decided to add them to the assessment/re-assessment roster as well. Two more stones that are no longer unturned.

Surfing the Fandango At Home app two days ago, I noticed yet another movie that kept slipping through the cracks for me, with that one being “Cashback”. Of course, I don’t know why it kept slipping through the cracks for me during all this (unspecified) time, but that’s no longer the case now, as it has that quirky “Superstore” vibe and I like those types of movies. So, with most of that previous sentence being said, it has finally been added to the roster.

We’re 43 days away from Halloween, so today isn’t the correct day to hand out multiple pieces of candy. But today is another correct day to use the simile of “handing out something like candy”, which in this case is another round of pardons/exemptions. Yes, more (23 to be exact) movies have each emerged in deserving one last chance at joining The Project. And as to what those 23 movies are, well you can find out via the chart below:

MovieWhy it’s getting another chance
W.E. (Pardon)If the “love birds” aspect of “Paycheck” can be in The Project, then this movie deserves a re-assessment, as it too has that same aspect.
Elvis (Pardon)Austin Butler’s performance deserves another look.
Priscilla (Exemption, Tier 12)If “Elvis” can be re-assessed, then this movie should get that same status.
Never Let Go (Exemption, Tier 12)Despite the real-life 16-year age gap between Halle Berry and William Catlett, I can stomach their pairing way better than the Rob and Gloria pairing in “Grown Ups”, the latter of which is an enshrined Flickuum movie.
The Professor And The Madman (Pardon)Mel Gibson and Sean Penn have been two of the more bombastic celebrities in Hollywood history, so a movie with them together is worthy of a re-assessment.
The Spectacular Now (Pardon)Hot Summer Nights could grade out as the lowest-ranked A24 movie in The Project, and there’s no way that that movie is better than this one.
Wolf ’21 (Pardon)Despite a small dog crashing through some glass, this movie did set the stage for Lily-Rose Depp appearing in “Nosferatu”.
The Lighthouse (Pardon)The Witch (another Robert Eggers movie) is getting a second re-assessment, thus this one deserves that same status.
Chocolat (Pardon)It’s neck-and-neck with the movie that’s listed directly below it.
Julie & Julia (Pardon)It’s neck-and-neck with the movie that’s listed directly above it. Plus, if “The Boogeyman” can get a third re-assessment, then this movie should get one as well since they’re both Chris Messina movies.
The Adderall Diaries (Pardon)The semi autobiographical nature really gives clarity to what this movie is about.
Warcraft (Exemption, Tier 13)This movie is conjoined with the one that’s listed directly above it.
Quarantine (Pardon)This movie has a sequel, which might give it a complete feel.
Bad Hair (Pardon)Barbarian getting a since completed re-assessment is why this movie is in this spot.
The Dawn (Pardon)Since the aforementioned “Quarantine” is getting re-assessed, this movie deserves that same status.
Frankie And Johnny (Pardon)This 1991 movie won’t outrank another (and previous) Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer collaboration in “Scarface”, but their characters are much more pleasant to one another in their second collaboration.
Madame Web (Pardon)Never in my wildest dreams did I think that this movie would get another chance. But after the lack of  punch that I got from “How To Be Single” nearly a week ago, this movie has the potential to upset evaluation 1,327.
Morbius (Pardon)If the aforementioned “Madame Web” can be re-assessed, then this other non-Spider-Man Sony-verse movie should be as well.
The Paper (Pardon)This movie is up and down, from the standpoint of initial yellow journalism and trying to do the right thing afterwards.
Kraven The Hunter (Exemption, Tier 12)See two spots above.
Deadfall (Pardon)Since “Dead Of Winter” is on the roster, this movie might as well be re-assessed.
The Horse Whisperer (Pardon)The 1990s NBC sitcom yuppy aesthetic aside, this movie could overcome that to punch its ticket into The Project.
Transsiberian (Pardon)The roommate who recommends movies to me heaped praise upon this one, thus it needs a re-assessment.

Flickuum flukes have happened and will continue to happen, such as Blake Lively having two movies in the Top 200, and Tamsin Egerton on pace to high-point over that Nadine Velazquez-Melissa Barrera-Megan Fox ranking range three more times. And now you can add an actual “Fluke”, as the 1995 dog-themed movie, starring Matthew Modine, popped up in the stock of one of my go-to eBay sellers. So, given that I like movies about dogs and it jumped out at me in that aforementioned stock, that movie is now the latest dog one to be added to the roster.

Recommendations/suggestions have come out of the woodwork a bit lately, as evidenced by both the first piece of movie-related content in this entry and a certain paragraph in Volume 185. Now you can add texting with another one of my friends to that category, as a friend of mine with a family member in the movie industry mentioned the movie “Porky’s” to me and mentioned it in the form of a question. And of course, with that being said, the answer to that question was me saying that that movie is one of the big-name movies that I still haven’t seen. But now that that movie has been brought to my attention, I’ve decided to add it to the roster.

And finally, what’s a Flickasbord entry without the mention of a 2023 (or newer) movie, as the focking Fockers aren’t done quite yet. You see, not too long ago, I noticed via Ariana Grande’s IMDB page that she’ll be appearing in the fourth Fockers installment, entitled “Focker In-Law”. And given the life that she brought to The Project via the assessments of “Wicked: Part One” and “Underdogs”, as well as the very high expectations that have already been placed upon “Wicked: For Good”, that aforementioned fourth installment will be added to my 2026 theatrical tour, simply because I feel that she’ll bring some much-needed juice to that franchise.

Well, I still don’t have the maximum of 50 movies to compete in the next Varsity Vs. JV style battle, due in large part to my commitment to adding to The Flickuum rankings. And depending on how I want to approach the next 64 evaluations between now and this coming December 6, I could meet that maximum amount as early as tonight and/or no later than this coming October 7.

Until the next time.
