Given both the feasibility of completing the remainder of my speed test runs for specific DVDs by this coming Sunday, and my strong commitment to resume The Flickuum Project exactly a week from now, the latter is going to somewhat violate my indefinite vow of exactly one blog entry per week, as I’ll be blogging my verdict about the former six days from now in all likelihood. But that’s okay, because new additions to the assessment/re-assessment roster always need to be put into the Art Infliction Content Universe and I have a fresh crop of roster additions, starting as far back as 11 days ago.
Let’s begin.
First up, surfing the upcoming movies section of iTunes, I noticed another one of those uplifting “inspired by a true story” movies, entitled “Sarah’s Oil”, which is about an 11-year-old girl, whom believes that there is oil under the ground of her residence. And given that I like uplifting movies, along with this particular one having a beloved dog in it, it has been added to the roster and could be a part of my 2025 theatrical tour if it ends up in one of the eight movie theaters that are either near me or somewhat near me. Stay tuned.
Next up, what do you get when you combine A] The basketball movie “Sneaks”, B] Three movies in which basically every character is some sort of humanoid animal, with those three movies being “Robot Dreams”, “Zootopia” and “Chicken Little”, and C] A movie with the same animation style as the “Spider-Verse” movies? The answer is “GOAT”, which I think I saw a very short trailer of when I went to go see “The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” with my brother-in-law almost six months ago. Of course, I don’t remember exactly when I saw that trailer, but I liked what I saw of it, thus both that fact and noticing it in that upcoming movies section of iTunes have planted a seed in my head to add it to my 2026 theatrical tour, with its United States wide release date being February 13.
There are some years in which a movie with a specific premise gets released in the same year as another movie with a similar premise, with such examples being A] 1997 with “Dante’s Peak” and “Volcano”, B] 1998 with “Deep Impact” and “Armageddon”, and C] 2021 with “In The Heights” and the remake of “West Side Story”. And now you can add 2022 to that list also, as “She Said” and “Women Talking” were both released that year. However, I felt that the former of those two 2022 movies got more attention, on the basis of it being about the start of the #MeToo Movement, thus why I struggled to remember the name of the latter. But thanks to one of my roommates, whom was watching it on TV three days ago, I now remember that name, thus it has been added to the roster. And given that the aforementioned “She Said” will probably land in the same ranking range as the movies that are currently ranked 1,310 through 1,312, I have a feeling that the Rooney Mara-led movie will outrank it. Stay tuned.
When it comes to the career of Odette Annable, she’s been unable to put forth a Flickuum-worthy movie in which she has a substantial role in a live-action movie. And while she keeps steadily running out of such chances, there is still hope for her, in the form of the newly-released movie “Under Fire”. So yeah, maybe that can be one or two (depending on how “Cloverfield” does) live-action movie[s] (and of Flickuum quality) that can give her a role that was/is way bigger than her brief appearance in “Transformers” a.k.a. the 1,305th enshrined Flickuum movie. Stay tuned.
When it comes to movies about farm animals that are beloved pets, only to end up dying in such heinous ways, I usually pump the brakes on seeing such movies almost immediately. However, I’m going to make an exception for “The Rooster”, which seems like a cross between the Nicolas Cage movie “Pig” and “John Wick”. And given that both of those movies will be enshrined in less than a year, along with that Alice In Chains song “Rooster” playing in my head, I’m going to take a flier on that movie.
There are so many actresses that fall under the category of no such thing as too much of them in The Flickuum. Furthermore, it’s a category that has of course been applied to such actresses in Nadine Velazquez, Melissa Barrera, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Anna Camp, Eiza Gonzalez, Minka Kelly and Megan Fox. Now you can add Hassie Harrison to that group, as her most recent movie “Dangerous Animals” looks like it can wipe the floor with “Jaws: The Revenge” a.k.a. the 848th enshrined Flickuum movie. Yes, her body of work is much smaller, compared to those other actresses, but I have a feeling that she’ll put forth a fourth movie of Flickuum quality for The Project.
Speaking of actresses that fall under the category that I mentioned in the prior paragraph, Lily James is another such actress and somehow I keep overlooking specific movies of hers, case in point “Finally Dawn”. But she has eternal staying power in my memory bank, so it was only a matter of time before I finally decided to kick the tires on a movie that made its United States debut at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival. Now let’s see if it will increase her total of overall guaranteed Flickuum movies or not.
Continuing in that category is Shelley Hennig, whom has three overall guaranteed Flickuum movies and another five up for assessment/re-assessment. Or should I say six for the latter, as I noticed her new movie “Fluxx” coming to Apple tomorrow. And given that her stock has risen since the evaluation of “Teen Wolf: The Movie”, I’m totally going to assess that movie, especially since she appears to be the main character of it. Let’s see how close that she gets to double digits.
Quite a few of my favorite rappers have acted in movies, such as Snoop Dogg doing the voice of Cousin It in both computer-animated “Addams Family” movies and 2Pac’s unforgettable role as Bishop in “Juice”. And of course, that category includes many other favorite rappers of mine, with Method Man being another one of them. So, with that being said, the latter of those three is whom this paragraph is about, as the most well-known member of the Wu-Tang Clan has yet another movie that I want to assess, entitled “Bad Shabbos”, a movie with “Shiva Baby” vibes and one in which he’s in a comedic role. And given that he’s made the seamless transition from rapping to acting, I have no doubt that he’s going to kick ass in that role.
I love 2D-animated DC Comics movies, as they bring back my childhood memories of watching those gritty Saturday morning cartoons, such as “Wild C.A.T.S.” and the “Red Sky” era of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Of course, all the Shemar Moore “Justice League” movies, “Wonder Woman: Bloodlines” and “Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” are all overall guaranteed Flickuum movies, which bodes well for other 2D-animated DC Comics movies, with the latest one being “Aztec Batman: Clash Of Empires”. And given what I’ve seen of it via that trailer, well it could very well join those other ones in Tier 5. Stay tuned.
There have been plenty of times in which a trailer has me hooked to go see its movie, with “Love Lies Bleeding” being one of the most recent examples of that. Now you can add “Eenie Meanie” to that list, as I noticed its trailer during commercials of my assessment for “West Michigan”. And based on what I saw, it was a high-energy action comedy with “Baby Driver” vibes, so given that and the fact that I’m a fan of Samara Weaving, I will assess it during my very spread out evaluation schedule of next month. Now let’s see if that movie will be her eighth in The Project.
When it comes to movies with “Runt” in their title, I hesitate to assess such movies almost immediately, given a very upsetting thing that happens in the 2019 movie of that title. And I almost overlooked the upcoming 2025 movie of that same title, which is about an adopted dog and a girl doing their part in trying to prevent the loss of the family farm. But given that the upcoming movie is both way more upbeat and based on a beloved best-selling book, it’s going to be added to the roster and could very well be assessed before the 2019 movie. Stay tuned.
And finally, very recent insomniac internet surfing led me to the website of a former Etsy seller to see how up to date that that website was. And as it turned out, it was very up to date, as one of the new releases on it was this horror anthology movie, entitled “The Night Time World”. And given that I like horror anthology movies, such as “A Comedy Of Horrors”, I’ve decided to take a flier on the former, in hopes that it too can make The Project.
Well, I still have plenty of speed test runs awaiting me, so you all know what will be consuming most of my time during Week 375 of the current Art Infliction era. But there have been some silver linings between the beginning of my decision to tackle that massive goal and now, with them being A] Six movies passed their assessments/re-assessments and B] Another movie got its pre-order listing announced via iTunes. And given that I’ll have three theatrical assessments this week at the very least, well that six could turn into nine, as there are high expectations for the trio of “Relay”, “Honey Don’t!” and “Eden”. Plus, who knows what other assessment/re-assessment opportunities that I’ll have between now and midnight next Monday.
Stay tuned and until the next time.
