Back in part one of this particular subseries, I mentioned compiling Saltburn, Next Goal Wins, The Holdovers, Silent Night and The Iron Claw as my group of movies to select from, due to my decisions of removing both Poor Things and Napoleon from my 2023 theatrical tour, thus giving me two movies to fill those spots. So, with all of that being said, I of course made my choice in what those two movies will be. And as to what they will be, well they will be Next Goal Wins, as that was the movie that I randomly chose for one of my roommates to go see with me and Saltburn, simply because its trailer gave off that same dark comedy vibe that The Menu gave off.
Alright, so now that I’ve (tentatively) made those picks, it’s time for me to predict how each movie will fare via their assessments. Let’s start with Next Goal Wins via the next paragraph.
Alright, so when it comes to Next Goal Wins, well it’s directed by Taika Waititi, who inherited the reigns of directing the Thor franchise, thus producing two Catch-22 Hundred movies in Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love And Thunder. However, the same cannot be said for Hunt For The Wilderpeople, as A] Sam Neill was badly miscast in that movie and B] It was far too over-reliant on being quirky. So, with that prior sentence being said, I’m afraid that Next Goal Wins will eventually suffer the same unfortunate outcome, as the aforementioned Hunt For The Wilderpeople is on the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention page. Now onto Saltburn via the next paragraph.
Alright, so when it comes to the latter of the two selected movies, the young brunette woman that we see in the window via that movie’s trailer got my attention, except I don’t know that actress’ name. But hopefully she has a substantial role, as I’m not flocking to that movie to go see Carey Mulligan, an actress who I find watchable yet somewhat undynamic, despite the fact that she is on pace for three Catch-22 Hundred movies. Look, it’s not that I have anything against her because I’m sure that she’s a nice person in real life. It’s just that there were/are actresses much more dynamic than her to the point that they can hold my attention way longer, i.e. Lily James and Melissa Barrera. So, given the possibility of my attention span not being up to par via the aforementioned Carey Mulligan (especially if she has a substantial role), as well as this movie occasionally giving off vibes that are similar to The Riot Club, there could possibly be two foreseeably open Catch-22 Hundred spots come five days from now.
Tune in two days from now to the fallback plan that is already in the works.
