Some franchises just don’t have good connectivity, with such examples being the “Batman” franchise that spanned from 1989 through 1997 and the “Ant-Man” franchise that spanned from 2015 through 2023. And now you can add the “Indiana Jones” franchise to that list, as “Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull” just jumped the shark a little too much, followed by “The Dial Of Destiny” having a lousy ending. So, with all of that being said, those two movies will be going to the Movie-Ocrity/Dishonorable Mention, along with “The Soloist”, in what will be a move to A) Give Isabel Arraiza her best immediate shot at being a part of Flickuum lore via the movie “Driven”, B) Give “The Hateful Eight” another chance because Kurt Russell teaming up with Samuel L. Jackson is just awesome and C) Give the 2006 version of “Running Scared” another chance because there could be a platoon situation involving multiple Idalis DeLeon movies, as “Vicious Circle” could make The Project after all yet needs that 2006 movie, “Woman Art Thou Loosed” and/or “Brothers In Arms” to pass assessment/re-assessment.
Taylor Swift having just “The Lorax” and “Valentine’s Day” in The Project will allow her to either break even or barely finish under .500 in the rankings against a whole gaggle of much more appealing female celebrities, headlined by Nadine Velazquez. And given how obnoxious that her hype train has been since that Capital One commercial of hers, “Amsterdam” has been placed in Tier 11 so that a scenario, such as Nadine Velazquez finishing 28-11 against her in The Project, can actually happen. She won’t be able to ever shake that off. Plus, that movie could work perfectly in tandem with a Freida Pinto movie.
For all the granting that I’ve done and continue to do for pre-2023 movies, I keep overlooking “Next Goal Wins” for Tier 11, simply because it’s a 2023 movie that I didn’t re-assess, which is what I exactly did for both “Gran Turismo” and “Talk To Me”. However, it’s time that I right that oversimplification, because I heaped praise on it very recently and I better justify that before I completely forget to place it in Project selection protocols. Yes, it’s joining “Amsterdam” in Tier 11.
I’ve corralled a lot of big-name movies, such as “John Wick” and “Murder By Numbers”, into the Mega Movie Package yet I always feel that there are more big names still to corral. And with that being said, another one of those movies has finally come to mind, with it being the music biopic “The Doors”, due to how iconic that that band was. Plus, given that 2024 is the year of the music biopic, now is the perfect time for the 1991 movie to ride the momentum that was started by “Jimi: All Is By My Side” and subsequently super-charged by both “Bob Marley: One Love” and “Back To Black”.
1992 was when Tiffani-Amber Thiessen appeared in her first movie, with that movie being “Saved By The Bell: Hawaiian Style”. But that’s not the only one that she appeared in that year because in addition, she appeared in “A Killer Among Friends”, which was released as a Tuesday night made-for-TV movie 11 days after the premiere of the former. Of course, the actress best known as playing Kelly Kapowski has racked up multiple made-for-TV movies and she has been a success (to me anyways) on the big small screen, although I have officially exiled “She Fought Alone” to the Movies That Mega Tat Refuses To See page. And of course, with that last part being said, I have decided to add the latter 1992 movie to that page because it will just be a complete letdown to me, especially with it coming 11 days after the Bayside Seven (Kelly, Zack, Slater, Jessie, Screech, Lisa, Mr. Belding) hit the big small screen.
There is a rule that I frequently apply to The Project, which is if a certain movie can be in The Project, then another certain movie should be in The Project as well. And of course, with that rule being said, “Devotion” will join both “Amsterdam” and “Next Goal Wins” in Tier 11, as the Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell collaboration was assessed before the former of those three movies was re-assessed, and it’s quite frankly the more superior of the two movies. Plus, that movie had my attention once the radiant Serinda Swan appeared via her portrayal of the late Elizabeth Taylor, and there’s no freaking way that a Taylor Swift movie (Amsterdam) goes into The Project without the other 2022 movie.
And finally, the then-unknown Marisa Abela is anything but unknown now, as her portrayal of the late Amy Winehouse in the movie “Back To Black” is already resonating with me and I just saw assessed it yesterday. So, with that being said, I decided to look at her IMDB filmography to see if she did anything prior to that instant hit. And as it turned out, she did, as she appeared in a pair of 2022 movies where she has substantial roles, with them being “Rogue Agent” and “She Is Love”. Of course, I’ll assess both movies, but in the next wave of assessments/re-assessments, as I feel that assessing them not too long after assessing the aforementioned “Back To Black” is just way too soon.
Well, it’s time to see how much of the current wave that I can complete before Monday afternoon, as both “The Dial Of Destiny” and the John Ritter movie “Man Of The Year” really side-tracked me today. But that’s okay because having a next wave could be just what I need after I achieve the intense goal of 1,100 completed Flickuum evaluations.
Until the next time.
